More About Me

Hello....I love to teach the violin and fiddle to adults, youth and children. My specialty is in teaching children ages 5 and up
I start beginners with the basics of good technique skills. My lesson plans are for each individual and made up each week to supplement the books we are using. I include theory, rhythm training, ear training, site reading, scales and tunes into each of the lessons. I'm a flexible teacher with a high interest in the needs of the student whether they want to learn classical or eventually go into the different fiddle styles.
I use several different teaching books that are geared to the age and skill level of the student. I use a theory workbook for both children and adults...each theory book is geared to the age group. I do not teach Suzuki Method. I believe there are many very good, modern method books that reflect the new interests and styles of a particular age group. Together with the student and parent, if the child is young, I let the student/parent make the choice of books to use and have them here and available through our shop, Bobs Violins and Bows.
I believe that learning music should be fun and enjoyable for all age groups. Together, the student and I work during the lesson on good posture, intonation, rhythm and tempo in combination with a tune we are learning. Some times we sing, sometimes we dance and or listen to a CD of the tune we are working on. When working with a young child I request that the parent be present for the duration of the lesson to be able to absorb and learn right along with the child, so that together they can practice music making at home and develop skills where the parent can help and be active with the student. I always send home a written practice guide with assignments that the student checks off each day that they practice. I request an older student to practice daily, if their schedules allow, for just 15 minutes a day, twice if they can. For young students I suggest to the parent a 5-10 minute practice twice a day. Part of the lesson is in taking care of the violin and bow and at the end of the lesson a student learns to clean the strings, violin and bow before putting it away in the case. Good habits are essential for a happy and healthy budding musician.
BELIEVE IN MUSIC.
