American Violin by Thomas Hofto, 1920

This is a violin made by Tacoma, Washington violin maker and player Thomas L. Hofto. The maker spent some time learning from a Polish maker in California, then moved to Washington, where he established a business making and selling violins from 1915 until his death.

A jazz player from DC brought this violin to me to sell because he’s been downsizing his collection of violins and bows. It was played extensively and then taken to The Violin House of Weaver for repair and revarnishing (its original varnish had been peeling off to the point that it was no longer salvageable). It was set up there to the player’s preference of low string heights for quick response and ease of playing with a light touch. It responds easily and produces a rather pleasant tone. It’s a quirky violin that’s part of the history of Washington state violin making. I have some additional information and pictures of the maker that I will provide to the buyer upon purchase.

Here is the listing:
fiddlehangout.com/classified/13138

GEWA Hybrid Carbon Fiber/Pernambuco Violin Bow

This is a bow that provides good value and handling at a price that’s easy on the wallet.

A colleague who was impressed with their full size bows persuaded the company to follow up on their success by making them in fractional sizes as well for younger players. The fractional bows have turned out to be a success for the company as well.

I have two of these bows available currently.

Here is the listing:
fiddlehangout.com/classified/13137

This violin is one of several that I bought a few years ago in the white to varnish. It has a nicely flamed one piece back and light antiquing. It’s a pleasure to play as well and is just waiting for a player to explore its potential.

Here is the listing:
fiddlehangout.com/classified/13045

What do you all think about a Batey fiddle? I had it sold but the buyer returned it. I took it to a violin shop in Tampa and the owner said it is a beautiful violin and worth $3000. It has a bright clear sound that just sings. Anyone here have experience with Lebron's fiddles?

Intermediate Nickel Mounted Violin Bow with Imitation Ivory Frog

This is a bow of good quality mounted in nickel. Even long before ivory became restricted, companies that manufactured bows were experimenting with manmade materials that could be used in lieu of more expensive materials like ivory and tortoise shell. This bow is a nice example of ingenuity and the frog is eye-catching. The bow is in excellent condition.

Here is the listing:

fiddlehangout.com/classified/12869

Note: Swap Shop posts must have classified ads!

Please note that the Swap Shop forum is for discussion of classified ads ONLY.

This isn't a place to simply post items you want to buy, sell or trade...rather, you should post a classified ad http://www.fiddlehangout.com/classifieds/ explaining in detail what you're looking to buy, sell or trade, then create a topic that relates to this ad, so people can discuss your request here on the forum. Copy the URL of the topic and paste it into your classified ads' "Discussion URL" field, and you're all set!

This is also a good idea because it gives you maximum exposure, as your post is in both the classifieds and the forum.

Thanks!
