2 Left Handed violins: Gliga and Evolution Violin

I've got two nice lefty violins, for sale because I've moved onto viola fairly soon after starting on violin.

The Gliga below has been played probably 20 hours, and the Evolution Violin hasn't been played more than 10 min :)

Here is a pic of all 4 of my lefty violin family - the two violas are NOT for sale :)

The Gliga is a "Gems 2", e.g. their upper level student model, with an upgraded M2 pernambuco bow, plus lefty-compatible shoulder rest, Gliga supplied case, etc.. about $675 from them including tax, etc - yours for $550.

The electric Evolution is a lovely carved maple box, that is very quiet unplugged but sounds great plugged in, and has a cool frequency cut switch to tweak your sound to match the amp or the room you are playing in. It's the EV2LG pictured here. SN 1013 - they haven't updated it's sold status. Comes with unused bow from EV and case.

The Evolution Violin is on the far left; Gliga is the trad looking on 3 from the left.

	$550 each, shipped/paypalled, or $1K for both.

$50 off one for a cash/pickup in Los Angeles.

Ebay White Violin

I hope it's not against policy. But there are 2 white violins from Germany about to go on ebay.

I have no idea if this is a really good deal or not. But Hofner kits go between $300-$400

I think they need scrolls carved and graduation done. Some kits are further finished.

New CD: Sing to me Concertina Boy

My latest recording project is finally out and about. “Sing to Me, Concertina Boy” - I'll tell you all about it but first let me introduce myself because this is my first post on this forum. I'm a concertina player and singer mostly. I taught myself to play Anglo concertina by asking some great fiddle players to teach me dance tunes. I tried to play like a fiddle as much as I could, matching not only the notes and rhythms but also articulation, phrasing, bowing double stops and more. What an education! Now 30 years later, many of those fiddle players are in my bands and recordings and I still listen carefully to the fiddle today, and try to match that sound on the concertina.

On this new CD I have included three fiddlers whom I have played with for years and greatly admire, they play on five of the tracks of this CD:

Sam Zygmuntowicz, fiddle and mandolin - a very experienced dance fiddler and luthier.

John Dexter, classical viola wizard who also plays with the Manhattan String Quartet.

Paul Friedman, old-time maven for many years.

This is a full CD of concertina songs and tunes, ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime... vintage crooning of some very old popular songs from the late 18th through the mid 20th centuries. These songs share a quirky and charming nostalgia that includes traditional folk, variety, music hall, 2nd Avenue and Hawaiian hapa haole gems. This unexpected mix of amusing songs and tunes is guaranteed to raise a smile and make you want to sing along.

If you attended any of my club appearances in England last month, you heard many of these selections. I like to perform all 17 of these fun songs live with only my own concertina playing to back me up and lead the choruses. “Sing to Me, Concertina Boy” includes a few of these solo renditions, but mostly I’ve asked eight of my favorite musicians to join me on fiddle, viola, mandolin, guitar, ukelele, acoustic bass, trombone, hammered dulcimer, cathedral pipe organ plus saxophones, washboard and jaw harp chorus. It’s a big warm sound.

Get your copy today in time for the holidays. PM or email me and I’ll post it on to you ASAP, Paypal preferred. If you want to read the full liner notes, hear samples, buy downloads or pay with a credit card, use this link:
Hopefully someone can help me here. I have several of my grandfather's violins including one that may have belonged to Bob Wills or someone in his band. The violin some markings inside but most of difficult to read. One reads Stainer but i can't make out the date. Another says it was rebuilt in 1930 and again repaired by Joseph H. Stamps in 1945. It has been in my closet for the last 35 years and I was hoping someone here could shed some light on what exactly it is....Thanks.

Another Old Fiddle ID

I hope I'm not annoying you guys with another "Help, I found another cheap old fiddle that's probably not worth a damn thing", but you'll have to forgive me, I'm new around here, and I did. I bought this little thing over the summer because I had been playing a 3/4 that someone had given me and I wanted to start getting accustomed to a 4/4 since I play Mandolin, too. I had actually been planning on a cheap Chinese fiddle, when I found this on Craigslist and couldn't pass it up. I took it to a shop and had a qualified pro look at it, and he told me it was fairly inexpensive, German-style, and probably from around 1880-1890. He also told me that the varnish had been redone at some point. The only other clue I have is a small stamp inside, barely an inch long reading "Fried. Aug. Glass". I have done a little research on Glass violins, but I can't really find any connection between mine and the ones I see on eBay, which have much more detailed labels. So far, I have spent most of my time on "Playing Advice", but I've read a couple of similar posts that seemed very helpful, so I figured it was worth a try. Hopefully FHO can shed a little more light on this baby. I can also post some better pics some time tomorrow if you would like to see some, so feel free to ask. Thanks!

Don

	Hello everyone,

Now,a lot of violin Made in China. Some say, Chinese violin are poor quality. Some say, Chinese violin is very good. Have you bought violins from China? How do you think about the violin that made in China?
Looking for good quality 1/2 violin

I am new to the forum and have wanted to join for a long time. I am learning better computer operation skills, as mine are terrible. I look forward to becoming a contributing member of fiddle hangout. But my first post is for selfish reasons. I would like to buy my 5 year old sister a violin for Christmas. actually she may be six now, I'm not sure. But i originally thought I could get a 3/4 but am now thinking a 1/2 would be better. Shes an average sized 5-6 year old, and i started her on piano lessons at age 3. Shes getting very good, but is getting board and has always been fascinated with violin and ready to learn.

I would like to purchase a relatively inexpensive (up to $500) antique, well figured violin for her. Preferably one that I can restore myself, because it would mean more to her, and I enjoy doing what I am good at, outside of business. I have search High and low on ebay /internet, but no luck yet.

Thank you for any thoughts and input

My products from Gianna Violins 4/4 Beck Violin

This announcement doesn't really fit anywhere, this looks as good as anywhere.

I'm moving my shop, and I'm not looking forward to moving everything. In addition to Beck fiddles, I have everything else. All the odds and ends, violins, fiddles, junk stuff, cases, old and new stuff, extra tools, just all the stuff you'll see hanging around my shop. Mandolin stuff, too, guitar stuff. Instruments, cases, all this junk.

I'm probably going to move most of it around Nov. 10 to 12. Whatever I can ship before that time would be super!! I'll give my friends here really good prices. There's no way to list my entire store, especially the junk that is forgotten or not generally sold. I have a microwave, a small refrigerator, a gas furnace, shelf sets, wood for mandolins. Whatever I can put in boxes and ship would be very very nice to have out of here.

I also have to clear out the house we're moving into, Lenoir City, TN. Lots of furniture and household stuff, outboard motors, all kinds of junk. Shopsmith. Tools. Who knows what's in the attic, I haven't dared look yet. If you want to visit & poke around that's great.

Need Help Identifying Vintage Violin

	Good morning fiddle hangout.

I know very little of violins/fiddles, but purchased a very interesting one in my shop the other day.

The only identifying mark is a label inside that says...

Regraduated and Voice By Saunders Bros Violin Makers

	Toledo Ohio, 8-1909.

Does anyone know anything about this or how to go about identifying the maker? or value?

Does it look american or european?

Any input would be GREATLY appreciated.

Pirastro Tonica Strings

Several years ago, I tried Pirastro Tonica Strings on my main fiddle, and I really liked them. We were playing for my niece's wedding in August, and I thought I would change back to synthetic strings for a mellower tone, so I ordered a set of Pirastro's on line. It turns out that they were back-ordered and weren't going to come in on time, so I went to a local shop and bought a set. I put them on my fiddle that night, and I just didn't like them anymore - guess I'm a dedicated steel string fiddler. It was too late to cancel my on-line order, so my loss is your gain - if you want to try out a set (Pirastro Tonica G, D & A plus a Pirastro Gold E), I have priced them to sell. I will also sell my slightly used loose strings (A, D, & E) along with the set or separately - must have misplaced the G somewhere.

Early 20th c. German Fiddle in Claasifieds.

Hello everybody! I am a new member to Fiddle Hangout and I have post a fiddle for sale in the classifieds. Please check it out! As I state in the ad, I am a retired music teacher with 30 years experience, with over 22 of those years being a teacher of string instruments/orchestra director. I have seen quite a few violins in my years of teaching, so while not a professional appraiser I know a few things. One thing I learned from a friend who is a professional luthier is how to spot a German "trade" fiddle. There are a number of things that are "dead giveaways" so that's why I'm fairly confident that's what we have here. I also learned quite a bit about instrument repair by taking a couple of workshops, reading everything i could get on the subject, and of course the "school" of experience working on school and student instruments out of necessity. So the bridge and sound post are both jobs I've done many times before. I wish I had taken "before" pictures as well as after! I feel like it turned out nicely. If anyone else has speculation or information based on my description and pictures. please feel free to post said information! And pass the word to anyone who may be interested. All proceeds go to our church's work, as this was donated (my services and the materials I used were also donated). The $600 price is based on my research, but we will certainly entertain fair offers!

Seeking Hiram Stamper DVD !!

	Hello,
There is a Hiram Stamper DVD that I've found references to online that was put out by The Field Recorders' Collective in 2007.
Since finding out about this, I've decided that it's imperitive to my fiddle studies to acquire a copy.
I've contacted the Recorders' Collective and unfortunately the disc is out of print. They recommend trying to find another copy
that I can borrow or duplicate for my own use.
If anyone has a copy and would like to share, please let me know! If you can make me a copy I will compensate generously, or
if you could lend me your copy, I'm a very trustworthy person and will promise to return it unscathed.
Many thanks in advance,
J

Also, as far as I know this is not a bootleg or copyrighted material so I hope this post is not against the forum rules.

Gig-Bags for violin

Hello FHO members.....I'm looking for a fiddle travel case made by a UK company called Gig-Bags. They look like they might hold a tennis racket instead of a fiddle. Music 123 at one time carried them and even had them on sale but that was about 3 years ago. I have tried to contact the company via the net but they do not list an email address. Does anyone out in fiddle land know of a place I can buy one or where I could contact a supplier for wholesale as my husband and I own a fiddle shop here in San Diego...Bobs Violins and Bows. Thanks. Diane in SoCal. Stay tuned and have a great day.

What to look for in my first fiddle?

Hello, this is my first post here. I'm looking to buy a fiddle, but being a poor high school student, I can't afford to spend a whole lot. I'd like to keep from spending more than $100 because I also really need a new banjo mine is a piece of crap, but I honestly don't know how much a good violin/fiddle costs so I may need to spend way more than that. I've been looking at "handmade" ones in my price range on eBay but I don't know if they are actually any good, any insight would be much appreciated.

Left handed acoustic/electric Evolution Violin for sale

just moved this to a classified ad - leaving the info here to facilitation questions :)

bought this recently but finances force me to liquidate a few things:

$600 paypalled/shipped in the continental US. Comes with case, rosin, and bow.

$50 less for cash/pickup in Los Angeles.

Check out this link: http://www.evolutionviolin.com/ev2.htm for the Lefty EV2LG

That one ( EV2LG S.N. #1013 ) is the exact one I purchased: (the "sold" status hasn't been updated). It has figured maple top, back, and bent ribs.

Quite a nice little violin; a lovely voice when amplified, very usable tone/vol knobs, and a clever frequency filter to allow the bass notes to come through better when amplified.

Here are some pics the original seller (luthier) provided when I bought it (check the link above for more info on Evolution Violin)

	http://salamander.net/stage/EV2LG/EV1.jpg

I'm happy to take additional pics - let me know, although I've only played this for 10 min so it's exactly as pictured here.

I haven't even rosined up the bow that came with it (used another one to test it out).

No trades at this point - I have to raise some funds :)
