Anyone have a tef file or sheet music for this tune or know where to find some? Or tell me a little more about how to play it? It's a modal tune right? It has to be otherwise I wouldn't be obsessed with it. I think I may have figured out the basics but I've never tuned my fiddle to aeae before so I'm not 100% sure what I am doing. It doesn't sound quite right but pretty gosh darn close!

Yes, I am working with a slow down program to attempt learning it. My ear is learning, but I have a long way to go before that becomes dependable.

I've decided to learn B&W Rag. I found two arrangements, and two recordings. The recordings are both in A, and the transcriptions are in G (both Texas players).

G is a little easier to play, but which key do most folks know it in? It's not the sort of tune that's easy to transpose on the fly.........[:I]

Todays Country Song Breaks

Good players society..., theres so much on this site of Bluegrass, Old time,Western Swing, Cajun and other fiddle playings, what about
Modern Country (todays Country Music) Song fiddle breaks .

I´m not finding any Book or Sheetmusic available, neither an instructional DVD,
some sharp minds requested here.

Private Lessons are too expensive, hard to handle. The only way?
Some players acclaims that I have to be in Master Class on Old Time, Bluegrass and other styles, before even trying these shiny breaks of todays Country Songs.
I would`nt buy this ....I would call that modern ...(not allowed in print).

Figuring out the fiddle break to Dailey & Vincent`s "Take me Back" is for instance a good example, for what I´m talking about. Just amazing work, slowing it down didnt do the trick for me either.

I'm trying to learn Les Barres De La Prison, the Dewey Balfa version on the Cajun Fiddle Old and New album, by ear. It's a bit of a challenge since I'm still a newbie and this is my first step into Cajun. I can get this first note, at least I hope, an E and then I'm lost until he plays a C. Does anyone know if there's sheet music or tab or tabledit online for it? I've dug and I've dug and I can't find anything but a melbay book I dont' want to order. It seems like there's no database online for Cajun fiddle tunes like there is for old time. If anyone knows this tune it would be awesome if you could help me out [:)]

Back Up sheetmusic

Hi ya all great fiddlers

Any ideas about back up for fiddle according to all styles of playings.
Alison Krauss and Mark O`connor are doing good work on Bluegrass with it.
Western Swing Guys plays magnificent back up , which suits to any modern Country song as a back up.

I think its some kind of Harmony they do as a back up, 3 rds or 5 ths or whatever, I´m not familiar with it, yet working as a teacher in Harmony singing, so I thought it might be purty close to it.

They´re also using some kinds of thrills, licks, rhythm things, that really makes you wanna dance....

Hey friends!

So, looking for some fun, upbeat bluegrass fiddle songs. Prosperity Special was one that I really enjoyed.

I'm a beginning fiddler looking for some reasonable stuff I can really practice up and perhaps play with some others. Stuff that trades leads with other instruments sounds great to me.

Any favorites or good ideas? Just point me towards them. As long as I can get sheet music I'll practice up!

I think its probably an old tune that was renamed by the locals.

Eck Robertson, "Say Old Man"

Does anyone play Robertson's setting of "Say Old Man, Can You Play the Fiddle"?

I'm just starting to work on it, and he's droning on an F, not the E as in most versions. Is this the way he played it, or is the tuning off? This is off the 1963 recording, so I would presume the recording is accurate, but I would hate to spend the time to learn it over an F, only to find out that the fingerings were not possible in later sections.

I really like his setting. Most versions tune the G down to an E. Does he cross tune on this one? I'm not far enough into it to tell, really.

We often come across tunes that we would like to learn and play. She is not into any type of tablature, only music notation with sheet music.
Are you aware of any web sites I am able to visit ? to find selections of Old Time music, Civil war, and Gospel.. Free or pay either is ok..
Tunes like ( I am weary let me rest)...(Precious Memories)....(Soldier's Joy), etc..

If anyone can figure out the TABS for "Six More Miles" by Mike Ness that'd be awesome! I'm not the best at picking out music, i play by ear but really want to know this song that way it is supposed to be played.

Looking for matching Sheet Music/Song

[?]I am looking for a resource where I can hear a fiddle tune and then get the sheet music for that exact song. I have been playing for a little over a year. I am learning to play some songs by ear. However, I have found from past fiddle lessons that listening to a song muliple times and then having the exact sheet music helps me learn and remember songs. This is an approach my instructor takes, but she doesn't know all songs. And, its the same approach as most beginner books/CDs. Any suggestions? Thanks. [?]

Name that Tune, Please

I'm going back through some recordings that I made at a local jam and I would appreciate some help with tune names. Can anyone tell me what this one is? (I used small letters for notes on the A and E strings and capital letters for the D string and the tune seems to have three parts, A, B, and C, each of which take up two lines.) Many thanks!

Old 78rpms

Due to the recent passing of a family member I have the opportunity to go thru a record collection that numbers in the thousands. Being that the 78s are in plain brown paper jackets I need to quick scan the labels on these to see if there is anything of interest to me. Being new to this business of fiddlin I have very limited knowledge as to what names I should be looking for on these when it comes to fiddle music.

I thought perhaps some of you great folks might be able to provide me with some names of old fiddlin artists that I can check for when going through this collection.

Many thanks in advance for all replys,

Gospel Medley?

I've been wanting to put together a gospel medley to play at church sometime. I don't know what tunes to include. I do know that I want "I'll Fly Away" in it. Do you have any ideas for other tunes to add and how to transition between them (I would be playing unaccompanied- not even rhythm guitar).

Thank you!
