Husband was professional player. Old viola with no ticket. Several luthiers and appraisers have said with provenance it would be worth more money than we would ever have. Labeled “Gio Battista Gabrielli 1711” in handwriting. Wish it were a good label but it is not original to the instrument. Made of 2 pieces of plane maple on the back, rib, and neck, and has a wide-grained spruce top with evenly applied dark reddish brown varnish. Very good condition. Case included. Recent appraisal by Antonio Strad Violin Shop in San Antonio. Husband was a strong player. He had many offers for what he called this “sleeper” and turned down them all.
