Vernon learned this tune directly from Eck Robertson back in the late 1950s when Vernon spent a lot of time with Eck during Vernon's time in the Air Force in Texas. What is interesting is that I just noticed that somebody has uploaded what sounds like a field recording of Eck playing this tune in 1959 and it appears that Vernon passed it on to me pretty much true to the way Eck played it.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Here's a set of 3 Welsh hornpipes (in the key of G). Translations of the titles are: Mr Pring's Hornpipe; the Corwen March; The Man with the Mouth.

Apparently Mr Pring was an organist at Bangor Cathedral (in my home town) in the 19th Century, so it's presumably quite a local tune. Corwen is a small town fairly near to the English border in Mid/North Wales. The final tune comes from the Welsh gypsy tradition.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>My project of renovating/improving/lefty-converting Dewitt Small's fiddle is finished....this is the first recording of it, Leadbelly's 'Poor Howard,' rendered as a fiddle tune. A little rubber mute on the bridge to warm the tone some. Like all acoustic instruments, it'll take some playing to 'open up' the sound. Varnish will further-cure, wood will settle and get used to vibrating, further adjustments will be made. What I'm hearing so far tickles me. It's not loud but promises to be a sweet 'parlor' fiddle.....I just love that this Wisconsin farmer's homemade fiddle has a new home & new fiddler....and will be PLAYED!.... Dewitt Small: born in Iowa, March 16, 1912, passed in Wisconsin April 23, 2003. In-between he built at least one fiddle--this one--in 1981, when he was 69 years old. RIP and thank you Dewitt for building this fiddle--hope ya don't mind I hollowed-out your scroll! Always nice to meet a fellow Pisces.</itunes:summary>
