My Instruments: I have now dusted off and made a repairjob on my old fiddle, which I haven't touched for about twenty years, and try to practice a little now and then. I can only play in standardtuning (yet) and use the fingering I have learned on the mandolin. The bowing is the hardest thing to learn. Other than that I play guitar (my main instrument) banjo, mandolin, mountain dulcimer, baritone ukulele, autoharp and a little piano. And I sing too. I paly with my buddy Tobias Enevoldsen in a duo collaboration once a week, and occasionally in the old time band Big Hungry Joe.
Favorite Bands/Musicians: Oh, too many to mention. But to name a few, Doc Watson, Tony Rice, Norman Blake, Dan Crary, David Grisman, John Hartford, Vassar Clemens, Tommy Jarrel, Edden Hammons, Fred Cockerham, Benton Flippen, Riley Puckett, The Skillet Lickers, Rachel Eddy, Andy Edmonds, Rayna Gellert, Ole Rossel, Charlie Poole, Bruce Molsky, Mike Jarboe, Bob Wills, Stephane Grappelli, Dr. John, Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal, Tom Waits, Ben Webster, Chet Baker, Svend Asmussen, Stuff Smith and on, and on, and on. I could continue for days.

This is for you, fiddlerfaddler. It is my first attempt at recording anything with the fiddle, and I wouldn't have dared, if I couldn't hide a bit behind the mandolin and the guitar. I have recorded it on four tracks. Guitar, song, mandolin and fiddle. It probably would have been better if I had tried it out 20 times, but I decided on first take on all four tracks. I mean, it IS old-time, it IS folk music, and I guess that the old man in the very funny lyrics didn't play any better sitting in under his leaking roof :-)
So here it is with all the faults and errors.

Beaumont Rag played on two tracks on a Hamony Parlor guitar from around 1920.
It is a Doc Watson arrangement. But I only play half the speed he does ;-)

Today I recorded this old song, on a pocket size 4 track digital recorder. Playing a new 4 string tenor guitar, mandolin and song in the left speaker. An old Harmony parlor guitar, song and mountain dulcimer in the right speaker. I did the singing together with the two guitars, so the instruments almost drowned out the song. Sorry. But I upload it anyway. After all it's old time, and homespun music. Hope you like it.

25 years ago I made some recordings on a 4 track Fostex tape recorder. I recently found the tapes and digitized some of them. I was surprised that I could stand to listen to them. Hope you can as well.I play all instruments and sing both voices.

This is a song I have from an old 78' recording from the 20's with Riley Puckett. With the help from the good folks at OT Muic Forum Europe an Mudcat Cafe, I have managed to get the lyrics down. It's kinda funny. The composer is Bradley Kinkaid, I have been told.

An old murder ballad. There are a great number of murder ballads, Little Sadie, Banks of the Ohio, Knoxville Girl etc. Many can be traced way back in time. Knoxville Girl for instance can be traced to the British Isles way back in the 1600'th.
In most of the songs, there are no reason mentioned whatsoever, as to why the young man kills his sweeatheart. In Willow Garden there is a kind of reason. Not a good one, but at least a reason.

We learned this tune from a recording of Virginia fiddler Uncle Charlie Osborne (1890-1992). He recorded it when he was about 90-95 years of age.
My friend Tobias play the fiddle and I play a strumstick or dulcitar, which is like a mountain dulcimer, just held differently, and later I have overdubbet a guitar.
You can read about Uncle Charlie Osborn here:

On this song I play an old Harmony parlor guitar from the 1920's. A new tenor guitar, a four string instrument tuned like a tenor banjo, and some mandolin solos. And I sing.

I heard this on an old recording with Gid Tanner & His Skillet Lickers. I found some lyrics to the song on the internet. Not the same as Gid Tanners version, but very funny too I think. I sing harmonies and play guitar and mandolin on this one.

An old childrens song. Some professor has tracked it down to 1913, which probably means it goes way back in the 1800'th.
I'm sorry, no fiddle again. I'm mainly a guitarplayer and singer, but it's old-time. This is only me on two voices and a guitar.

I have this one from a recording with Foghorn Stringband.
It's me on two voices and guitar, and I play the fiddle part on the mandolin.
As good as I could do it, when I recorded it.

I have just made a new recording of Lynchburg Town. I wasn't satisfied with the old one that I made just after I had learned the tune.
I think practice has maybe not made perfect, But at least better. I let the old one stay for a while, so you can compare, and because I'm a little sad about loosing a nice commend and the ratings it has got :-)

Here's a new version of my first attempt at the mountain dulcimer. I have just bought a new (old) guitar, and felt like doing the guitar score with that one. It's a vintage 60's arch top acoustic guitar, and it has a more "dry" sound to it.

I have heard this beautiful little waltz on a CD with Boiled Buzzards. Here I play it on an old parlor guitar on rythm and melody, and a tenor guitar on rhythm in the right speaker. The melody ought to be played on a harmonica. Maybe one day, when I have tried it out with the harmonica player in our band.

This is a little beauty I think. There's an almost medievel spirit to it. Maybe it's history goes a couple of hundred years back to the british Isles. I don't know.
Again it's Tobias on banjo and me on mandolin and guitar.

This is an old gospel tune. It's often heard song accapella, and as choir song.
I do it with guitar accompainment.
I should say, I'm not religious, but I love the tune very much.

Here I play on my banjo for the first time in this forum, and I play the guitar too. This version of the well known song Tom Dooley, I have from A book and some recordings with one of my musical heroes, Doc Watson. He claims he have it from his grandmother, who as a child was a neighbor to the Dooley family. I like this much better, than the very popular version with the Kingston Trio. I think that was ruined (for me at least), because a danish pop quartet had a hit on danish radio with it in the late 50's, early 60's. I can't stand to listen to it today. But this one with Doc I love. Hope I haven't ruined it for you people :-)

I have deleted the earlier version of this tune, and uploaded a new one, which I think is better than the first one.
I play rythm guitar on one track and lead on another.
