Learned from the Canote Bothers' new CD "Dogs in the Dishes". The liner notes for this tune say "J.S. Price's AEAC# tune sounds a lot like Cotton Eyed Joe".

Learned this tune from the Macrae Sisters' "Old Sledge" CD (highly recommended for old time music fans!). Originally from the playing of Eck Robertson.

I first played this tune on banjo at a slow jam hosted by Charlie and Nancy Hartness at the Portland Old Time Music Gathering a few years back. I later really learned it on banjo from the cross G recording posted at the Centralia Parlor Pickers Society web site. Charlie and Nancy played it in A, as did my fiddle buddy Mike Burns. So when I got around to working it out on fiddle I used cross A. Great tune! I haven't listened to any early source recordings that match this version.

Originally learned on banjo from my fiddle buddy Joe Moore at the Waypost Coffee House back in early 2007. Later on after I took up fiddle it just sort of started working its way out. Bobby Taylor has a similar tune called "Ragged Shirt" on his CD "Bobby Taylor Plays Ragged Shirt and Other Favorite Fiddle Tunes from West Virginia". You can order that from CD Baby (and you should!). But Joe calls his version Old Ragged Coat so I do, too.
