Occupation: Electrician/Flute and Fife maker @ Healy Flute Company
Gender: Male
Age: 38
My Instruments: fiddle, guitar, mandolin, flute (boehm, simple system), whistle & a few other odds & ends. My main Fiddle is a strad copy, probably a 1920's american non-factory, one piece back (with a huge whiskey stain in the varnish) That I bought from an old lady from LA, it has a stamp on the inside which reads "Joseph H. Stamps 2110 Jennings Ave Fort Worth Tex."
Favorite Bands/Musicians: Irish: NY/Irish players like: Andy McGann, Martin Wynn, Tony DeMarco, Brian Conway also Paddy Cronin, Dennis Murphy Julia Clifford etc. Jazz & Blues: Papa John, Stuff Smith & Joe Venuti. When it comes to rock, I'm a song by song person, image is nothing to me - I tend to like more experimental things, both in song structure & instrumentation.

This is an Ed Reavy tune which has been picked up by the Scots. I was experimenting with creating drones in Audacity, I overdubbed an A,E drone then overdubbed it dropped again to A,,E, .

These two tunes are said to be variations on the reel Ships are Sailing They definitely have some similarities in the second part of both tunes. While the inspiration may have come from that reel, I feel they have grown into their own & I think go well together. I got the first one from the playing of Andy McGann who played it as a single reel (most play it as a double) & I got the Connemara Stockings by osmosis.
Jackson was a piper & his tunes are very common in the Co Sligo bag-o-tunes, not sure abot the history of the other one.

Two reels. The first, The Lass of Carracastle is a Scots reel that was picked up by the Irish, I'm playing it here in the original key of C - followed by "The Humours of Westport" a straight-foward dance tune in the key of F.

Here is James Morrison playing his namesake jig. He plays it as a set with Richard Brennan's Favourite. Richard Brennan was a fiddler from Co Sligo.
I wish this set was played together more often in respect & memory of James Morrison.

For the virtual Fiddle Fest. Bits of all sorts of settings I've heard over the years in there.

I'm American, but my heritage is both Irish & Lithuanian. I was looking into Lithuanian folk music & which tunes & forms translated over to the Irish music that I play on the fiddle. I took some cues from the Lithuanian folk melodies & quickly came up with this mazurka. I didn't think too much of it at the time, I played it for some of my friends & they said it was a keeper. My friend Jay Gilbert played it at a session as a set with "Sonny Brogan's" http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/5476 one time when I wasn't around & the tune caught the ear of Bob Drouin who heads up many sessions & has passed the tune on to many others. Recently I went to a session I hadn't been to in years & they started to play this tune. So... it's a hit & I thought I'd give it a better rendition than the :30 clip I put on youtube to originally share the tune.
As far as the recording....
I used audacity and a tie-clip condenser mic from radio shack (except for the guitar which I used a dean markley single coil through a mosfet preamp (which I soldered up years ago))
I played all the instruments: fiddle, flute, mandolin & guitar. There's a hint of reverb on the flute & fiddle, I also added a drone and doubled it an octave lower with the magic of audacity.
Hope you enjoy

This one's dedicated to fiddlepogo. Not common at most sessions, but everyone can play it.

Padraig O'Keefe playing an air while putting a skeleton key on the bridge creating a talk-box/wha-wha like effect - supposed to imitate the crying of a baby.
