Jamming around the campfire or playing on the back porch is where the real music is.
My fiddle experience level is somewhere between novice and intermediate, however there are not enough options in the profile to note that.

Just returned from the Breaking Up Winter Old Time Music Festival in Lebanon Tennessee.
For someone who likes Old Time like me, this is one fantastic festival to go to.
It's very well organized. Jamming runs late into the night and the morning and afternoon hours are filled with lectures, workshops, concerts and performer led jamming.
The attendance is something between 150 and 300, so it is relatively easy to get to know the other attendees. All the scheduled activities are indoors, so even on a weekend like last, the inclement weather does not impact the festival much.
The things I like about it the best though, are the quality of the musicians attending and the openness of the jamming circles.
If you like Old Time and you get a chance to go, this festival is highly recommended. You'll have to wait untill next year though.
