My Instruments:
My main fiddle is a hard used but wonderfully sounding D. Salzard that's about 130 years old, with a one piece back to die for, and appears handmade. My second fiddle is handmade by Gerald Stockdale of Springfield MO in 1960.And I have an early 20th c. German Strad which is plain-plain-plain until you put the bow to her, when she turns into Cinderella at the Ball, with Dark Rich Tone. And I've got a 4th fiddle that's a german trade fiddle, a project I haven't gotten to. I also own a Jackson Guldan and a 3/4 German fiddle, both of which need work, and will probably be fixed and sold eventually.

Got a venue for the Easton PA OT jam, only it's in another State

Okay, so it's only a football field's length from PA (probably less if the border is officially in the middle of the Delaware River!) but hey, it's close! The Easton PA Oldtime Jam will be held at the Riverview Arts Center, 68 South Main, in Phillipsburg NJ on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 8 PM, commencing on the second Tuesday of March. The Center is really close to the Free Bridge to Easton, next to Delahanty's Pub, and very convenient to Rt 22, and not so bad from I-78 either.
I've got it posted on this forum and calendar, I've got it posted on the BHO and FPHO, and I'm waiting for my membership to come through for a couple other forums so I can post there. I sent out an emailing to all the people I know, and Norm of the Pocono Dulcimer Club said he'd post it on their website, though he hasn't done so yet.
I started an Easton PA Oldtime Jam tunelist here, though that page will be moved to another fiddle oriented website once I get around to building it. And the list is by no means complete, it's just a start of one. Hopefully enough to get us through the first jam!
The day and time we chose, Tuesday, we'll be following a class of cloggers who meet from 6 to 8, so hopefully we'll pick up a dancer or two to lay some percussion down for us. Yay!
I had a lot of help with this from someone who I met through the craigslist ad I posted to see if there'd be interest. Ed Saultz, the first person who answered the ad, helped me find the venue. He's been great, and I really look forward to playing with him.

LOL! I'm doing that too! P'burg and Easton are sister cities, and are often mentioned in the same breath, though which comes first in the pair is often as acrimonious as the football rivalry Thanksgiving Day! |

Oh good! I'm hoping Jane can make it too. Ed's coming, but he's going to be just a bit late, since he's playing in Easton until 8. Another gal, Nancy, will be coming if the weather allows her to drive down from Honesdale (near Scranton.) She found me through the folkjam site before I ever announced the jam. So right now we have two fiddles and two guitars. There are some others who expressed interest off the craigslist ad who I notified. Hopefully the bass player shows up, and the mando. And I really hope a banjo player pops outta the woodwork. |

Usually in any group of five bluegrass banjoists, you can find one that at least dabbles in clawhammer.

Okay, I'm looking over the jam song liste, and I like it; however, what's a jam without Zep's "Whole Lotta Love?" I know you haven't asked my opinion on this, but I'm just trying to be helpful. Throw it in betwixt "Redhaired Boy" and "Redwing" methinks.

I have to wait until after THIS tuesday to post the 4th tuesday rotation, because of the way the folkjam interface is set up. It doesn't let you put in a start date for the rotation.
Oh, we may have a bit of a kink in the jam. Monica, the Arts Center Director, asked if she could play her Arabic Drum. I gently suggested that jazz brushes on a cardboard box would be a gentler percussion to go with our American Traditional acoustic music, since drums can be overwhelming. I hope she took the suggestion in the kind way it was meant, and doesn't get her nose out of joint over it. She's as obsessed with that drumming stuff as I am with fiddle and is wanting to cut loose with it. I dunno how that'll go over in a fledgeling jam.
