My Instruments: I have a Strad copy from Grandpa. I also have a fiddle that was made for me by Deborah-Helen Viator in Eunice, LA, which is my "tuned-down" Cajun fiddle. My first fiddle (which I still have & is still my best) is one that I payed only $150 for in 1980. The tone is balanced all the way across, but sounds particularly rich in the bass. The story I like to tell about it is that Mike Seeger once offered to buy it off me. Create your countdown widget and more at Blixy.com!
Favorite Bands/Musicians: I like anybody that plays Old-time and Cajun. Favorites include Kenny Jackson of the Rhythm Rats, Double Decker String Band, Rafe Stefanini, Clyde Davenport, Tommy Jarrell, Charlie Bowman, Al Hopkins & His Bucklebusters (aka The Hillbillies), Melvin Wine, Ernie Carpenter and Chirps Smith.

Bob n Gail Concert--A Followup
Friday, March 26, 2010 @5:54:14 PM
| If you were thinking of coming and didn't...For shame! It was a great performance. It was at the library a scant 3 blocks from the street I grew up on. (In fact my parents are still there.) The premise for the concert was that a "reading club" had been reading the Grapes Of Wrath, and the library wanted this concert as a grande finale. Now Kenosha is no hotbed of OT music. None of the people there knew what to expect, I'd wager. But they were sure glad they came, they were! One of the funnier moments was when Gail announced to the crowd that Bob was now going to sing the book. We went "Huh?" Until Bob launched into the Ballad of Tom Joad....After the concert four of us (Bob & Gail, myself and Chirps) drove over to the motel they were staying at and found a place to play some tunes and drink some New Glarus beer. A good time had by all! |
