Musician thing?

Saturday, February 06, 2010 @12:56:57 AM

I find that when I am around musicians my behaviour changes dramatically than to my mates at school. At school I am fairly wild and crazy but when I'm at orchestra I'm fairly cool, calm and collected except for the occasional joke. I'd love to know why is this so?

When I am playing music I am so much happier than what I am at school.

I am fairly weird and strange compared to the non-musicians of the world.

Are all musicians the same when it comes to these sorts of things? Or is it just me?

Could be that you feel more ease and self confidence in a musical setting, so have no need to bluff and bluster your way through. Eventually, as you get even better at music, that calm will spread through most of your life.

Or it could be that the conductor expects the musicians to sit there and behave themselves, so you do, except for the percussion section who usually are bored and start acting up. But thats what you gotta expect when you invite people who like to bang things. :-)

Yes, true. Confidence is key. It's not just in orchestra though, it seems in any musical scene I am well behaved. Hmm...percussionists in orchestras, also the brass sections seem to make up most of the noise for the rest of the orchestra.

They say playing music rewires your brain- maybe that accounts for some of the weirdness!
Creative, artistic people in general do tend to be a little (sometimes a lot) different from a lot of... maybe you could say, more practical people???

Brilliant, I love it! A reasonable explaination.
