Hello all ye fiddlers!

Wednesday, August 01, 2012 @12:11:13 PM

Hi!

I am new to the fiddle hangout and just thought I'd drop in with my first blog to say hello to everybody. This is a great website that you all have created, I have been getting tab for my 'jo and sheet for my violin from here for a long time.

I've been playing for what I would consider a while now (when I proportion the years I've been playing to my age- discard the 13, in a few days I'll be 14... 5/14 or about .357% of my life with an instrument in hand... hmm, well maybe it isn't that much after all) and to be truthful I'm more of a violinist than a fiddler. People always ask "what's the difference between a violin and a fiddle"- well, the two are about the same, it's the violinist and the fiddler who are different!

I love classical/baroque music so I suppose I could call myself a fiddler as well because I adore the minstrel style and I have always had an avid love for bluegrass. That is why I play the banjo, too, I've been playing it the longest out of all my instruments (except guitar).

But who takes the guitar seriously anymore. Too easy :)

Well, thanks for listening in on Der Freischütz and happy fiddling to you all.

Welcome, Bailey, and yes it's nice to have the young ones around--until they start playing "Lime Rock" flawlessly whilst talking to one of their friends--at which time I simply don't want them around at all.

you know playing guitar is very easy but playing guitar very well is very hard. there is jazz and joe pass said be for he passed away there is no wrong note it is only missed placed and he was a master guitar player.and there are many forms of guitar masters .just like violin players and violin masters be the best at what you can do and you will only get better and that goes for any one i,m retired i will be 66 in october

I know, I was just kidding about the guitar. It can be a very easy or very hard instrument, depends on what you play, but the instrument was always way too popular for my taste if you know what I mean. I go for instruments that most people never even see in real life! I play guitar it for fun and because every respectable musician should know the chords in your basic keys. For those "musical emergencies"...
I have a pen pal about your age who plays jazz (well, tries to play) and he will never let me forget that hepcats make everything harder.

Hepcats? Man he's gotta be older than dirt! :-D We'll probably end up with a lot of mutual friends, since I'm in KC, know a lot of area fiddlers and get to a lot of festivals. Let me know if I can be of help.

Yep. Dave is old. The only other time I'd heard it was in the Jumpin' Jive, by Cab Caloway... "can't you hear those hepcats call, come on boys let's have a ball."
