help researching old violin

Hi, need any info on an old violin. Label reads

ANTONIUS STRADIUARIUS CREMONEFIS   (F IS NOT CROSSED)

FACIEBAT ANNO  1736    (36 IN PENCIL)    then one circle inside another with a cross (inside top) with A  S  below cross.

made in germany  in smaller print.  looks old, fine tuners look old and of quality  thanks for any info of age and who possible made it? regards, Chris

Hey, Chris! This is maybe a copy, or at least a copy of a label made by the great Stradivarious. "Made in Germany" means that it was made to export, known as a "trade fiddle". Made, probably , from the late 1900's, onward. Probably made in a shop where many hands took part. Could be nice or not, but probably not valuable except for sound. Do you like it? That's all that matters.

I have one and I love the sound, but the 'feel' doesn't quite work with me. I should probably get the nut and fingerboard worked on.

I have the same violin, they where made in west Germany in the 30's to the 60's they have good sound and that comes from the close grain wood used to make them. Hope that helps.
