Scale Practice Last Night

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 @5:23:43 AM

I practiced for an hour last night playing scales against drone recordings.

It's a nice setup. I have the recordings on my google music account and stream them to my cell phone and play it over speakers. Then I start my Intonia software and set it on the more sensitive tuning setting and play the scale slowly at first then try to play faster, with slurs. sometimes moving back and forth between a couple of notes, first up, then down, etc.

I can watch the panel of the software to tell me when I miss the note then when I get it on the note I can stop and play just that note and listen to the interval between the note and the drone.

All the while I'm also practicing with the bow to get clearer more even tones.

I love it when I hear about fiddlers who obsess over intonation. :-) I have a drone CD that I intend to get back to when I've got more time and intensity for true practice again.

Scales can be fun. Love drones==the musical kind--too.
