Quick bring a map...I don't know where I'm going

Monday, February 20, 2012 @7:24:56 AM

A few years back I had a misfire in my brain waves and got the idea I wanted to learn to play fiddle....maybe it was a high fever, but none the less here I am.  So I set out to do just that, however I did not have a destination in sight, nor do I now.  I can play some songs, so I guess yes I am a fiddler, but now  what.  I don't want to be in a band so to speak, I certainly don't want any more fame than I already have  :)  so where in the world am I going with this....?????????????

When do I know that I've made it to where I am going....especially since I don't know where I am going..

Don't worry. Be happy. Just play.

I've had those thoughts. I don't play out very much so not many beyond folks here and my family hear my playing. I had ideas of grandeur of playing in a bluegrass band. I still hope to one day busk with my sons. I'd much rather play fiddle than watch TV.
For now, I love to play and so I play. That's enough for me. Think about why you really play?

I believe it was Yoda who once said "Adventure? excitement? A Jedi knight craves not these things"

I've had this talk with my daughter about goals and doing what it takes to obtain them, and BAM the next game she scored two! Line drives from forty yards away. In regards to fiddling, however, why? I've made it further than ever I or anyone thought I would, now playing with a great band and getting paid and having folks clap and all, but I never planned anything. I just decided to have fun with it, and the other stuff has happened. So I'll have to second bj (reluctantly!).

Just start experimenting with different types of fiddle music. I get bored with old time, I try some gospel, I get bored with that, I try some Irish.

End yer search Rene, cuz they'z aint no fiddle maps. If'n they wuz they'd be like rural Ozark roads....winding, hilly, curvy, bumpy. It aint tha destination, it's tha journey, so...jus take any road and enjoy tha trip.

Ozarkian....great thought, I finally reached that conclusion this morning on my drive through the ozark hills. If you reach the end it's all over. Thanks
