my friend Ed's visit

Friday, February 05, 2010 @1:48:34 PM

Today my good friend Ed McCoppin came over for a work visit.  We finished off a couple of viola molds for a 15 1/2"  Brescian model from one of the Strad magazine posters.

Ed is very good at this kind of thing as he was fromerly a pattern maker.  He is also currently the president of the MVA (Michigan Violin Makers Assoc.) and a very good violin maker.  He doesn't toot his own horn much so I am happy to do it for him. We go back a fair ways to when we met at Keith Doerr's when I was studying with Keith and his brother Ray in the early 90's.  Seems like just a short while ago.  Ed's always been very helpful to me loaning a tool or a hand whenever he can.  I try to return the favor with what little I know that I can share with him.

Ed brought his camera so I'll upload a couple of the photos he took in a bit.

Hope to get together with my friend (and new fh member) John Sands tomorrow.  We'll try to work up a few new sets of tunes for the local Irish session on Sunday.  Johns a great fiddler, very clean and consise phrasing.  I hope he may post some sound clips here at some point.

Good friends and good music, ahhh......
