lots of fun

The Saltlick Bluegess Festival was a lot fun. Great music and some really nice workshops. I took the clogging workshop taught by Melanie Belfiore, a three state clogging champ. She made the basic steps of the flat foot and rock step fun, easy to undestand and to follow. Now I just have to practice! The Fiddle Workshop was given by the fiddlers from The Blue River Band and The Tommy Brown Band. While I have to admit a lot of it was over my head as a beginner (it was a valuable workshop for fiddlers at many levels) what I really learned was 1) PRACTICE YOUR SCALES. Helps with fingering and to tune your ears to the sounds of chords. 2) KEEP YOUR FIDDLE CLEAN. The fiddle will sound better and extreme heat (summer sun) and resin can damage violin finish. 3) Practicing in the mirror can help you to draw a straighter bow. Watching in the mirror is a better way to make sure the bow is going straight up and down rather slightly sideways.
