Check it out here: fiddlehangout.com/tab/
This area is tons better than what the Banjo Hangout has--it allows you, the members, to upload tabs in multiple formats, including MP3 and MIDI reference files. You can also comment on and rate tabs!
It's not perfect yet, but it's functional, so I thought I'd take it live and let you all start posting some tabs!
Ideally I'd like tabs to be uploaded to this site, but you can also just link to webpages containing tabs, for those sites that host tabs who don't want to post them here as well.
Let me know what you think!

Eric! Very Very Cool!
When you say tabs, (multiformat) - can this also, or not, include standard music notation? I have never used tab, or write them - but have transcribed notation for others, and can do/write/transcribe any midi -
my experience is there are a lot of traditional note readers - can it be done also?

It'll work for either. I wasn't sure what to call it for this site--because I'm sure people will be posting both tab and standard notation. But you can certainly upload standard notation files.

Can we post any tabs or must they be Public Domain songs or original song tabs?
Is there any copyright issues?

There's a copyright statement when you go to upload tab files...be sure to read that!

I tried it out with my own form of tab that I developed, and it didn't work at all for that format. Where can I see some examples of tabs that do work?
Just call me Dwight.

Eric-
First, the "report problems" link takes you to the RHO page, and doesn't sign you in.
Second, it appears that you have to upload the file to the internet before you can put it into the tab section here (it asks for the url of the tab, with no apparent option to upload directly from your computer). Nevermind this, I found where the file is asked for, but it would be nice having it a little more intuitive. I just clicked on through until I found the page where it asks for the link.
bsed- here are the file types that can be uploaded:
* Powertab (.ptb) * Tabledit (.tef) * PDF (.pdf) * Gif (.gif) * Text (.tab) * Text (.txt) * JPEG (.jpg) * Guitar-Pro (.gtp) * Guitar-Pro 3 (.gp3) * Guitar-Pro 4 (.gp4) * Musedit (.med) * MIDI (.mid) * MP3 (.mp3)
So, you may have to put your tab into one of the above file types in order to put it up.
If anybody is going to post ABC tab files, you can do so by changing the file extension from .abc to .txt and making a note in the information that after downloading, change the .txt to .abc in order to extract the tab.
Help, how do I get rid of the extra copies (it seems) that were uploaded while I was trying to figure the page out? And, if I want to remove the tab, how is that done?

Hi Brad,
You can go in and edit your tab and delete files, add new ones, etc. Just click the link to view your tabs, then click the little pencil next to the tab.
I'm going to add the ability to do ABC files soon.

Yes it can. I just uploaded quite a few fiddle tunes in JPEG format - standard notation.

The tab section is great as I know a lot of picker friends who don't play by ear. This gives them a better opportunity to learn a new tune.

You need the tef viewer. It's a free download. Just google Tabledit and you'll see it. You can actually download the whole Tabledit program for free. It just doesn't allow you to tab more than 16 measures of any tune, but that's usually all you need to do a standard oldtime fiddle tune.

thanks bottle131...this is awesome...plenty enough tunes to keep me busy for a long time here...what in the world did we do before all this technology? i remember as a boy learning roll over beethoven on the guitar by playing the beatles record over and over again...

Eric,
Could you add a "Holiday" or "Seasonal" selection in the genre ID menu? I just uploaded some Christmas tunes and it would be great to be able to search for them in a more specific catagory than "other". I am finding I like this area a lot more than the BHO tabs area because of the grouping of tabs and audio files in one convenient place for learning - no more back-and-forth navigation to get all the pieces!

Hi, So I uploaded my first file today, a pdf of a transcription of Blackberry Blossom I just did (not the BB most people know, BTW). The first attempt resulted in a notice that the file was "hidden" until I "added" a file to the page when I viewed it on my personal tab page. So I uploaded it again and now two copies of the same tab appear on both pages, although the "hidden" note is now gone. Can't figure out how to get rid of one of the copies.
