I'm just now uploading my first recording with the Peavey PV6 mixer interface. I bought it partly because of the Peavey reputation for reliability since I have managed to break or damage 2 USB interfaces so far, and I figure I need all the help I can get!!!
Pardon yet another recording of Seneca Square Dance!!! It's my favorite warm up tune and test recording subject!
This is my first real mixer though. I got SO close to buying a Behringer so many times, but the iffy quality repution kept me from following through.
The preamps in this are suppose to be high quality, and when I first ran it through my sound system, I could tell it sounded clearer than through the ART USB interface.
It's nice having real mixer controls on the interface instead of having to dicker with the EQ in Audacity- I minused the treble 3, and boosted the bass 3. It sounded pretty good without reverb, but the room is so dead (a good thing for recording actually) that I added my usual moderate touch of AMBIENCE reverb.
Mics are the usual Heil PR30 on top (L), and PR35 on the bottom (R), with them panned hard right and left. The top (left) mic might be positioned closer than usual- I decided to use my gigging mic stand.

Michael, am I missing something? Where's the tune - I don't see it on your music page.

Doug,
You are missing something, because it's NOT THERE!!!
Occasionally I've had problems uploading files before, but it's also possible I got tired and shut the computer down during the upload!!!
I just tried again... going to check to see if it worked.

The second attempt failed too... tried one more time, and "the third times the charm".
It's under the "S"s right next to the Seneca Temperance medley, but has PV6USB in the title.

Now it's there three times. LOL

I see seven of 'em now! I don't know where to start. I'm glad you finally got the mixer, Michael. I didn't realize you were waiting for the USB version. I'll listen later.

I saw seven too- and I only made 3 upload attempts!!!
Doug, duplicates duly deleted!!!
Delighted???
Yup, I couldn't resist getting USB capability for another $30.
I also recorded with guitar and voice- this interface records with less midrange... making it a little less punchy, but more natural, I think. Of course, being a real mixer, I have midrange controls... at least on the first two channels, and I could experiment with boosting the midrange to see if I get a different but pleasing flavor that way.
If the PV6 USB becomes firmly ensconced at home for recording, I might think about getting a plain vanilla PV6 for gigging.
One of the things I've noticed as I get older is that I like things to be consistent. I don't want to learn a totally new way of doing things every time I buy a piece of equipment... or even a partially different way. Like I HATE it that the checkstand terminals for debit card transactions vary so much from store to store, with subtle differences that throw you off if you shop at a store you don't usually patronize. And now that I'm used to Intelli and Seiko tuners, I'll probably stick with them.

I did a test play this morning on the copy of Seneca I uploaded, and it wasn't working. So I uploaded another copy, and this time, I think it's working... and there's only ONE of them!!!

Yeah I tried it this morning and couldn't get anything, although your other tunes played OK. Didn't have time to let you know.
But now everything seems fine. Very nice Michael - clear and quiet and the fiddle sounds nice and full. Quite an improvement in sound from the version of two years ago.

Sorry I missed all the computer shenanagans! I listened to both versions, Michael, and the Peavey version, to me, sounds much fuller and richer and even and balanced. Very professional mix. Good choice of gear.

Evidently the foundation of the new Peavey mixer design was that they chose their BEST preamps, and built a simple rugged interface around it- good thinking!!!
That may be the reason they've been back-ordered and I had to wait for it... they've evidently sold like hotcakes!
However, the fiddle HAS also been tweaked quite a bit, so that may be part of it too. The low end has really opened up since I thinned the finish over the purfling, plus some bridge tweaks.

I'm never sure what I'm looking for on people's homepages, but I found the Seneca Sq. D. that said "test"... anyway, it sure sounds good.
I have Sure (or maybe it's spelled different) mics that we used to use when we had gigs here and there... wonder if they are hook - upable to computer?
Anyway, besides the technology part, you did a great job on the tune, and I guess getting the technology part right allows it to be heard for what it is! Sounds good!
