If you have any questions about the Silakowski 5-string, I'd be happy to answer them here on this forum.

The link to the instrument is fiddlehangout.com/classifieds/...&cid=1397

Thanks,

Heck,

That is what I would spend on a new "old" truck. Or is that "new" old truck. Good luck selling it.

It's a good fiddle and I would love to buy it if I would have the money right now (after test-driving it).
Definitely worth the money. Don't think it is too expensive.

Just wondering....why you are selling it?

Thanks, you all, for your comments and questions. A few years ago, I talked with John Silakowski on the phone and to use his words, he makes fiddles that "are good for playing in the parking lot or that are good for the studio, under the microphone." ;)

To answer your question, fiddlerdi, this fiddle is for playing in the parking lot, as it has a big and bold sound. I've played "screamer" violins that are terrible to have under your left ear because they're trebIe-heavy; this fiddle isn't like those. I play mainly acoustic/electric on stage and the amount of big amount of sound this instrument produces doesn't suit my playing style.

Also, I need to free up some money by selling it. I forgot to mention in the ad that $7500 is what I'd payed for the instrument, so I'm looking to get what I spent for it. As I'm aware, John charges $7500 or more for his 5-strings nowadays, due to the quality and demand of the instrument.

I'll do my best to regularly keep an eye on this forum. Thanks for the questions!

Wow!
Uh....I could live almost a year on that. Beautiful instrument, I just would have regular ebony pegs on it.
Good luck with the sale!

Really? You'd take regular pegs over Perfections, especially when they're already installed? If I could afford to buy this fiddle, and I really wish I could, I'd consider those Perfections a real bonus, something I wouldn't have to pay to achieve later.

Yep.
I guess I am old school. The worlds won't spin off it's axes is a peg slipped on a fiddle. Otherwise we would be careening through space! Lol!

Hey You All,
I still have the Thomastik 5-string alloy tailpiece and the original ebony pegs which I'll include those with the fiddle, should you wish to convert back to its standard setup. As I'm aware, it is no problem to convert back. It has a set of D'Addario Helicore 5-string Heavies that have been minimally played on (5-10 hours max).

The reason I like the perfection pegs and had them installed is that when you go through cold and hot weather so much, ebony pegs tend to not stick as much. Perhaps you all know of a good peg drop that doesn't freeze the pegs like some peg drops do. KC Strings did a great job at installing the perfection pegs. I usually use a strobe tuner to tune, and it's easy to zero in using the perfection pegs. I'm including the perfection pegs as part of the original price of the instrument.

Keep your questions coming, and thanks!

I put a sound sample of the Silakowski 5-string on fiddlehangout.com/myhangout/mu...p?id=5632
I'm using an Audio-Technica ST95 mic with no preamplification, reverb, or settings. The fiddle's tone is rich and has the response and projection without being too keen. Once you play it, I think you'll find that the tones really jump out of the instrument. The neck is not too wide and the spacing between strings is about 4.5-5mm, which is the average space between strings.
The back is Kentucky Maple and has an incredible flame "quilted maple" which is such a unique eye-catcher.The top is red spruce that came out of an old building in upstate New York in the 1910's. It is John's favorite topwood. Another perk is that the bridge and set up were done by Jeremy Timmons (the same guy who does Casey Driessen's setup).

I don't know if it's just my computer but the sound sample is really recorded too soft to hear how thisd fiddle sounds.

It is recorded low, but it does sound very nice. Nice vibrato too.
